Naked as we came on a hot summer day

I so miss my little mixed tape Mondays. But my close friend Karen, just posted this video and it made me want to share with you all. So in lieu of the mixed tape I give you this lovely little film by Iron and Wine.

Last week, as we drove up to the mountains, I sat passenger side scrolling through emails on my phone, smiling, as I read comments, laughing to myself {my friends are funny}, wondering what is wrong with all of us and this facebook phenom..... and then quietly gasping.

"We regret to announce that Mixwit will cease to exist at the end of the
year.The website and profiles will be turned off around Dec 27th and
all embedded widgets will stop playing before the end of December."

And so it's over.

No more Sunday evenings spent locked in my room, homework done, lying on the floor, headphones on, album covers strewn over the floor. Finding that perfect line up of songs, that soundtrack for the week ahead~ music that fights the Monday blues while embracing the 'do over' chance of a new week.

No more, chic rock. no more, rough voiced, vaguely euro, angst filled, crooners to share with you. Thank you for kindly being such a receptive audience to the mixed tapes.

And thank you for all of your great suggestions.

It was great fun while it lasted. and now slacker~blogger, best get back to writing posts on Monday.

huh. guess i poked the proverbial bee hive last week. that tartan, it's some seriously caustic stuff. what I have learned: people have deep convictions about the plaid. do not bring your dislike for tartan up at dinner parties {try something like, "gay marriage-yes/no" instead~much less controversial} tartan is not for everyone. most people love tartan. and finally, dusty rose is a charming color.

back from a long thanksgiving weekend that involved, a train trip, montecito, pool time, a cheryl tiegs sighting {I know, so retro} and lots and lots of great food. happy december, all!

are you ready? hang on tight.........here come the holidays! and we're still at 75 and sunny. the only thing that distinguishes november/december from july and august around here, is the slant of the shadows. this doesn't keep the town from stringing up santas between the date palms. smiling santa. waving his little plastic mittened hand at us, as we walk to the beach. {santa, are you mocking me?}

in a week or so i'll be dragging a tree through my front door, sweating as i haul the christmas decorations out of storage, wearing shorts and flip flops and dreaming of a white christmas.

living at the beach is a charmed situation for sure, but it's a bit of a faustian deal: no seasonal changes. ever. something that only irks me for about 3 months out of the year.

Great weekend.  Not so great is that, La La land is ablaze and our skies are an eerie orange haze. In the ashy air, I dragged the familia to felt club which was  fabulously crafty and fun. I was able to meet, in person, some of my favorite etsy vendors and see their work up close {more on that later}. All that and an impromptu dinner party with good friends. {yay!} Time to march forward into a fresh new week.

i love mondays. seriously i do. it's a reminder that there are, metaphorical, clean slates in life. tabula rasa and all that. sort of like that brand new notebook on the first day of class thing, but every week.
