Great, John Gillon, Jacaranda wood chair and ottoman on ebay...

Romanian born, John Gillon was a Brazilian furniture maker in the 50s and 60s with a background in Fine Arts and a degree in Architecture. Perhaps, best known for his work in local Brazilian hardwoods. This use of organic materials used in a highly engineered design style, takes furniture to fine art level.

This chair reminds me of the bridges designed by Santiago Caltrava:

We used to go to town with the modpodge.....B.I.T.D. Everything was fair game, including the basement stairwell of my parents' house which, to this day, remains wrapped in New Yorker covers dating back to the early 70s.

With the revival of hand printed wallpapers that push the creative limits, the two concepts have taken the gluey act of cutting, pasting and plastering to a level of elegance, that seats itself far and away from the hippy vibe of yore.

Using wall papers from such leaders of innovation in the field: Osborne & Little, Cole & Son and Timorous Beasties, Bryonie Porter has created a line of furnishing that appeals to anyone wanting to update their space while recycling a tired looking piece.

The only wah. factor: Porter is based in the U.K. {not an easy get, for those of us in the U.S.}

The bonus thing is that I'm completely inspired by her work. I have a feeling this looks much easier than it is, when it comes to the actual execution {did I ever tell you about the time I tried to make-my-own John Derien plates? } But if Mrs. Blandings can do *this* then dammit, I'm up for the challenge.

Vicky's Yard Sale

Remember artist Vicky Molinelli whose work I mentioned here?

Not only is Vicky a masterful painter, but she has an incredible eye for design in general {no surprise} While working as an assistant to designer Ruthie Sommers, she realized that, 'One of my favorite things to do for Ruthie was finding pieces for clients and the store {Chapman Radcliff Home}'

With the unfortunate closing of the store {a sorely missed resource in this town} another door has opened for Vicky...

'Vicky's yard sale'- A virtual rummage sale offering art deco, mid century, French, traditional, eclectic and even stuff for you DIY lovers.

Molinelli's hopes for her site are, "That whoever stumbles upon it feels the same way as I do when I drive by a hidden yard sale I didn't know about: Sheer excitement!

In case you missed this, like you: I'm a voyeur. Not a A nosy Parker, just an observer. I really don't care to know much about your personal details, I just want to see into your house. See what you have going' on in there. What colors you've chosen, what art work you have hanging, nothing too personal. Thanks to reality T.V., now I can enjoy my sport from the comforts of my sofa.

The last two weeks on bravo's RHONYC, we've been given, annoying glimpses and out of focus shots of Kelly Bensimon's NYC apartment. You'd think this denizen of fabulosity world, would have her houses splashed all over the shelter rags. If she has, I can't find much on them. I did, however, find a few scans from an old Instyle magazine with a view of those pink sofas and that life sized horse sculpture {which she acquired from the Met}

the horse is actually pretty amazing.

some are tired of pink, or merely don't do pink. Personally, I'd love a couple of big pink sofas. Could do without the zebra.

I swear, the chairs she has around her dining table, now, look like they're antique Louis chairs with faded, mis-matched velveteen. But these are equally cool. {yes, of course, I paused the scene}

oh and here are a few lame pictures of her house in the Hamptons. I say "lame" because I want more. This doesn't really cut it.

All week I've been trying to stave off the grippe. Not happening, my drippy nosed head is telling me.

These are all around $300.00. And honestly, my guess, they're probably the same quality as Pottery Barn.

oh and god forbid, it's ikat. Some loftier types say it's no longer 'happening'. I say it's been around forever and will continue to be a great graphic and organic 'kick' to any space. And at this price, what's to lose.
